1. Who we are

Periscope is operated by Periscope Social (ABN 92 241 934 532).

We provide social media analytics and insights for brands and teams. Our marketing site is at periscope.social. The product is accessed at portal.periscope.social.

For privacy questions or requests, contact us about privacy.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Periscope, we may collect:

  • Account information: name, email address, organisation membership, and authentication data processed through our identity provider (Clerk).
  • Workspace and profile data: company or brand name, website URL, onboarding answers, brand preferences, dashboard configuration, team member roles, and billing plan selection.
  • Connected social account data: when you connect platforms such as Meta (Facebook/Instagram), LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, X (Twitter), or TikTok, we receive secure access tokens and account identifiers needed to fetch analytics, posts, and profile metadata on your behalf. We do not receive your social network passwords.
  • Usage and product data: pages viewed, features used, connection status, cached analytics results, AI assistant prompts and responses related to your workspace, and activity logs for security and support.
  • Payment information: subscription status, plan, and billing history are processed by Paddle. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Communications: emails we send (for example trial reminders or product updates) and messages you send through our contact form.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, cookies, and similar data needed to operate and secure the service. When analytics is enabled and allowed, Google Analytics 4 may collect page views, referral and campaign parameters (including UTM tags and Google click IDs), and aggregated product events such as signup and checkout steps. Client error reports may include a truncated error message, page path, and browser user agent so we can fix bugs.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account and workspace
  • Authenticate you and enforce access controls for your organisation
  • Connect to third-party social platforms and display analytics in your dashboard
  • Personalise onboarding, insights, benchmarks, and AI-assisted features for your brand
  • Process subscriptions, trials, and invoices
  • Send service-related emails and optional product communications
  • Monitor performance, prevent abuse, and improve reliability and security
  • Understand marketing and signup funnel performance (for example which pages and CTAs lead to signup)
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests

4. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar regions)

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on:

  • Contract: to provide the service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, improve, and operate Periscope in a way that does not override your rights
  • Consent: where required, for example when you connect a social account, when you accept analytics cookies (EEA/UK and similar regions), or when you sign up (you can opt out of marketing email anytime)
  • Legal obligation: for tax, accounting, and regulatory requirements

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run Periscope, including:

  • Clerk: authentication and organisation management
  • Paddle: payments and subscription billing
  • Cloudflare: hosting, security, and database infrastructure
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC): website and product analytics when enabled and consent allows; optional export to Google Cloud BigQuery for analysis
  • Social platform APIs: Meta, LinkedIn, Google (YouTube), Pinterest, X, and TikTok when you choose to connect them
  • Email providers: Knock for product digests and tips; transactional email delivery (for example Resend)
  • AI providers: to power Ask AI and onboarding features using prompts scoped to your workspace

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale with appropriate safeguards.

6. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account or workspace is active and as needed to provide the service. Cached analytics and derived insights may be refreshed or deleted on a rolling basis. When you delete a workspace or request deletion, we remove or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or billing purposes.

See our data deletion instructions for how to request removal of your data.

7. Security

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and separation of customer workspaces. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong password and protect access to your account.

8. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your data or close your account
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Export your data in a portable format where feasible
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise these rights, send a privacy request. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. Organisation owners and admins can also remove team members and delete a workspace from organisation settings in the portal.

You can disconnect social accounts at any time from Settings → Organisation → Connections in the portal, which revokes our access to those platforms.

In the EEA, UK, and similar regions we show a cookie banner before enabling Google Analytics. Choosing Necessary only keeps essential cookies (session, region, security) and blocks analytics storage. Choosing Accept analytics stores your preference in the periscope_consent cookie (up to one year). Clear site cookies or contact privacy to reset that choice.

9. International transfers

Periscope may process data in countries other than where you live, including where our infrastructure and subprocessors operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.

10. Children

Periscope is a business service not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us about privacy and we will delete it.

11. Third-party links and platforms

Our service links to third-party websites and social networks. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. When you authorise a connection, that platform may also process your data under its terms.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or in-product notice where appropriate.
